Who Needs a Visa To Enter Cambodia?

Most foreign nationals need a visa to enter Cambodia. On-arrival visas and eVisas are the most common requirements for foreign citizens.

If you’re a citizen of an EU country, the U.S., the UK, Japan, or Australia, you can apply for a Cambodian visa online or at a port of entry.

Citizens of Kuwait and Turkey can enter Cambodia visa-free and stay for 30 days, provided they carry their respective country’s special passport. 

Holders of diplomatic and official passports of some countries can enter Cambodia freely. Currently, this privilege is available to citizens of Asian and South American countries, as well as some Northern African and European countries. 

Citizens of Western countries, including the U.S., are required to apply for a visa even if they have a diplomatic or official passport. 

What Visa Types Does Cambodia Offer?

Cambodia offers the following visa types to foreigners wishing to enter the country, depending on their reason for visiting and their ties to Cambodia:

1. Tourist Visa (Type-T)
2. Business Visa (Type-E)
3. Khmer Visa (Type-K)
4. Courtesy Visa (Type-C)
5. Official Visa (Type-B)
6. Diplomatic Visa (Type-A)

Tourist Visa (Type-T)

If you’re interested in visiting the country for a short period of time for personal or leisure purposes, you should apply for Cambodia’s Tourist Visa. It will allow you enough time to explore the country, experience its rich cultural heritage, and visit popular attractions such as Angkor Wat. 

The Tourist Visa allows you to:

• Use it within 90 days of issuance
• Enter the country only once
• Stay in the country for 30 days

You can extend the Visa when you arrive in the country. However, you can do this only once and for an equal amount of time.

Business Visa (Type-E)

The Cambodian Business Visa is the program you apply for if you intend to visit the country for business purposes, such as:

• Having employment in a Cambodian company
• Being invited by a Cambodian company or organization
• Being sent there by a company in your home country

In practice, the Visa is often used by digital nomads who want to use Cambodia as a base for a specific period. It’s also often used in lieu of a temporary residence permit with multiple extensions.

The program grants the same benefits as the Tourist Visa:

• 90-day validity
• Single entry allowance
• A 30-day stay

Khmer Visa (Type-K)

The Khmer Visa is available to you if you’re a Cambodian citizen traveling on a foreign passport or a child of Cambodian citizens born abroad. The program was created to facilitate the return of Cambodians from abroad, allowing them to live in the country like regular citizens. 

The Khmer Visa is the most generous program the country offers, allowing you to: 

• Use it for as long as the passport containing it is valid
• Enter the country multiple times
• Stay in the country for an unlimited period

When you get a new passport, you’ll have to apply for a new visa, since it’s non-transferable to a new passport.

Courtesy Visa (Type-C)

You can apply for the Courtesy Visa if you’re an employee, volunteer, or invitee of an international non-governmental organization that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cambodian government. 

The Courtesy Visa is extendable and has the following characteristics:

• It’s valid for 90 days
• It allows a single entry
• It grants a 30-day stay

Official Visa (Type-B)

To apply for an Official Visa, you must hold an official passport, usually as an employee of an international or intergovernmental organization such as the UN or WHO.

This Visa is issued on invitation and granted to you if you have an official duty to perform in the country. 

As an Official Visa holder, you can:

• Enter the country within 90 days of its issuance
• Enter the country only once
• Stay in the country for 30 days

You can also extend the visa for a longer stay once in Cambodia.

Diplomatic Visa (Type-A)

The Diplomatic Visa can be issued to you if you’re a holder of a diplomatic passport and a member of a foreign diplomatic mission or a government official. 

Holding a Diplomatic Visa allows for:

• Use within 90 days of issuance
• Multiple entries
• A 30-day stay

It’s possible to extend the visa.

Cambodia Visa Requirements and Prices

Some general requirements for obtaining a Cambodian visa apply to all visa types. These include: 

• A passport that will continue to be valid for at least six months after the visa is issued
• A passport-sized photo of yourself
• An application form, available at the port of entry or online at the Cambodian embassies’ websites or the eVisa registration platform

How To Get a Visa for Cambodia: 3 Methods Explained

There are three methods of applying for a Cambodian visa:

1. Online, through Cambodia’s official eVisa website
2. On arrival at the port of entry to the country
3. At the Cambodian embassy in your country

1. How To Get an eVisa for Cambodia

You can apply for a Tourist or Business Visa to Cambodia online, through Cambodia’s official eVisa website at evisa.gov.kh. The process involves three steps:

1. Fill out the visa application form on the official website
2. Pay the appropriate visa fee (Visa, Mastercard, Unionpay, Alipay, and WeChat accepted)
3. Receive your eVisa by email or download it from the website’s Check & Change page

The expected processing time for an eVisa is three business days.

You should note that eVisas are not accepted at all ports of entry to Cambodia, and service availability is subject to change. For example, as of December 2025, none of the border crossings from Thailand allow entry with an eVisa. 

You can enter Cambodia with an eVisa at:

• Techo International Airport
• Siem Reap Angkor International Airport
• Sihanoukville International Airport
• Bavet border crossing with Vietnam
• Tropaeng Kreal border crossing with Laos

2. How To Get a Cambodian Visa on Arrival

You can apply for a Cambodian visa upon arrival at one of the country’s major ports of entry. Here’s what you need to do: 

1. Present your passport
2. Provide a passport-sized image of yourself (physical copy)
3. Fill out a form that will be given to you at the border
4. Pay the appropriate visa fee

It’s generally recommended to have enough cash on you to pay the visa fee, in case of issues with the card processing infrastructure. Since the Cambodian economy is dollarized and U.S. dollars are widely accepted, you can pay the fee in this currency. 

Note that the country still advises visitors to apply for a visa before arrival to avoid long lines or other inconveniences.

3. How To Get a Visa at a Cambodian Embassy

Another way you can apply for a visa is at a Cambodian embassy or consulate in your country. If Cambodia doesn’t have a diplomatic mission there, you can still apply at an embassy or consulate abroad that covers your country. Typically, you can submit your application in two ways: 

1. In person
2. By mail

To apply, you should submit all the visa requirements, including your passport, a passport-sized photo of yourself, and a letter of invitation if you’re applying for a Business Visa. You should also complete the application form, which is typically available on the embassy’s website, and pay the appropriate fee. If applying by mail, you should send your actual passport with the application, not a copy.

Note that the payment method might differ from one country to another. For example, the Cambodian embassy to the UK accepts only cash and bank transfers, while the embassy to the U.S. accepts only money orders and cashier’s checks. 

Processing times also vary by embassy or consulate, and range from three business days to 10 or more. If you’re applying by mail, you should also consider the return shipment traveling time.

Additional Requirements When Traveling to Cambodia

As a visitor, you will also have to complete two additional steps to ensure you’re compliant with local regulations for travelers:

1. Fill out an Arrival Card: Since 2024, Cambodia has implemented a mandatory online Arrival Card. The online platform called e-Arrival replaces the paper immigration, health, and customs declarations you would usually have to fill out at the port of entry. You can fill it out for free and are required to do it at least seven days before arrival in the country
2. Register with the Foreigner Present in Cambodia System (FPCS): As a foreigner visiting Cambodia, you are required to register with the country’s system for recording foreigners’ information. If you are staying at a hotel or another hospitality establishment, the establishment should handle registration. Otherwise, you can register yourself via the official website or app

Does Cambodia Have a Golden Visa Program? 

Cambodia’s newly established Cambodia My Second Home (CM2H) program awards a Golden Visa to investors. As a holder, you are allowed 10 years of residency in the country, with citizenship available after five years upon investing in an approved real estate project and if you have successfully completed the Khmer language knowledge test.

The program also stands out as the most reliable way of securing a longer stay in the country. 

A key requirement of the CM2H program is meeting the minimum investment threshold. You must invest at least USD 85,000 in an approved real estate development selected by the government. Note that only designated projects qualify under the scheme.

The CM2H program also allows you to include family members in your application. When applying with dependents, you will need to submit official documentation to demonstrate the relationship, such as marriage or birth certificates. Note that including dependents in your application increases the minimum real estate investment required.

The application process for the CM2H program involves three steps:

1. Verification, where you submit documents related to your identity and background, such as your passport and any academic or professional certificates
2. Application, where you provide documents such as proof of income, bank statements, proof of investment in the country, and a medical certificate
3. Approval, where you wait for approval from the Ministry of Interior, and finalize the investment in the property
