How to Get Montserrat Residency: The Ultimate Guide

Montserrat Residency Programs
Three similar economic residence options are offered courtesy of the Montserrat Immigration Act of 2011.
Residency via Bank Deposit
The quickest route to residency on the island is to via the bank deposit route. You are required to deposit a minimum of $400,000 XCD, or $150,000 USD.
Residency via Property Investment
Purchase real estate on the island with a value of at least $450,000 XCD ($150,000 USD).
Residency via Government Securities
Invest in government bonds to the tune of no less than $450,000 XCD ($150,000 USD).
You are first granted a temporary residence permit renewed annually, and after five years, you qualify for a permanent residence permit. This, in turn, can lead to citizenship.
Mandatory Documentation
A person applying for residency in Montserrat must provide the following documents:
- Clean criminal record
- Valid passport
- Two passport-sized photos
- Medical certificate
- Proof of financial contribution by way of local bank statement, local property deed, or Government securities with a value of at least $400,000 XCD.
Notable Requirements
If persons interested in residence do not have a credit card, it is impossible to apply for a permit online. You need to go to the Immigration Office or the nearest Montserrat consulate.
The specific terms and conditions are:
- Property owners are responsible for their well-being and the well-being of family members in their care
- As a property owner, you may include only immediate family members in your application
- There is a non-refundable charge of $50 per person applying
- The person applying can only pay by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card.
The Application Process
If you are not investing via bank deposit or Government securities, here is the information you need to provide to secure residency by property investment by way of the granting of an Alien Land Holding License:
- The reference number of the land (Block & Parcel Number)
- A brief description of the land
- Your full name
- Your nationality.
- The purchase price of the property.
Montserrat’s Residency Benefits
While some residency applications can be time-consuming, in Montserrat your endorsement stating your right of abode is granted within 24 hours of applying.
As a resident you can also then apply for citizenship at a later date. Then, as the island is one of the British Overseas Territories, you join the ranks of British Overseas Territories citizens which, in turn, can lead to British citizenship.
