One common misconception is that marrying a foreigner gives you citizenship immediately. This is only true in rare cases and generally only in random countries.

Marrying a Brazilian citizen can qualify you for Brazilian citizenship after only one year of uninterrupted residency.


Israel's Law of Return allows Jews and their descendants to obtain permanent residency in Israel rather easily. Foreign spouses of Israeli citizens have to go through a naturalization process to obtain citizenship.
