Expat

Why More People Want to Become Expats

Fallback Image

Our founder Andrew Henderson has been a serious expat for many years, taking his first steps into expat life in Belize, the only official English-speaking country in Central America.

He recalls being more intimidated by language than anything else, and a place where every school kid grew up learning English seemed like it would be a lot less foreign to him.

Thankfully, only speaking English is not necessarily that much of a liability for those seeking a nomadic or expat lifestyle, with some degree of English being spoken everywhere.

And if you have the courtesy to learn a few words of the local language – like please and thank you – you’ll be received very well all over the world.

Traveling the world and exploring new surroundings, cultures, and customs was once something reserved only for the most out there and adventurous, and even more so, expatriating and moving your entire life to a foreign country.

However, it has become far more common today, especially for those seeking greater freedom and opportunities.

The Nomad Capitalist team has helped our clients get residence permits in 38 countries. We are all about freedom, including having the freedom to acquire residency and citizenship. Apply to become a client today, and we can help you too.

Jobs and Investment Opportunities Await

According to statistics, the top reasons for expats moving abroad in 2022 were:

  • finding a job
  • being recruited internationally
  • to live with a loved one

being sent by an employer

  • to go to university
  • better quality of life

For these reasons and many others, more people are becoming entrepreneurial and creating their own opportunities globally.

Changes in worth culture and technological advancements have made freelancing, working remotely, or being a digital nomad commonplace.

Good talent is hard to find, and savvy business owners will happily employ gifted people regardless of location. Both employees and business owners are becoming much more flexible in their working arrangements.

If you are an entrepreneur or investor, frontier markets offer huge returns. If you get in early with emerging markets, you can do very well. Follow the lead of Jim Rogers, Author of Adventure Capitalist, who has joined the ranks of many expats now living in Singapore, who realized that the 21st century will belong to Asia and that it’s better to be closer to the best business connection opportunities.

Growing Options

One of the ways forward-looking nations can stay afloat is to attract new people to support and invest in the economy. More and more countries are rolling out the welcome mat for digital nomads and expats to come, live and spend their money.

In Europe, this has taken the form of Golden Visas, and although a few programs have recently closed, there are still numerous enticing options available, including Greece and Malta.

These days the options for expats seem endless. You can choose from numerous programs and visas, residence through real estate, citizenship by investments, citizenship by descent, naturalization, or marriage. For example, there are now more than 50 digital nomad visas to choose from.

Have you decided to become an expat? Do you need some help to understand your options? Become a Nomad Capitalist client, and we will find the most suitable options, working as the architects and general contractors of your holistic strategy.

Freedom

The old ‘divine right of kings’ nonsense has been replaced by the ‘social contract’ nonsense that says you agreed to be enslaved to a particular State on the day you were born.

This so-called social contract is subject to changes by the State, is binding on you for life, and obliges you to pay for trillions in debt you neither created nor agreed to.

It is also increasingly appealing for many expats to relocate to countries not involved in any geopolitical tensions. With 252 countries and territories, there are plenty of places where you can be very happy living, reducing your taxes, increasing your freedom bettering your lifestyle, and avoiding conflict, including the culture wars.

Over the last decade, we’ve helped 1,500+ high and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and investors legally reduce their taxes overseas, increase their freedom, and grow their opportunities.

Go Where You Are Treated Best

Living the expat or nomadic lifestyle may seem exotic, but for the most part, being an expat helps you discover more about yourself and find business and investment opportunities.

Becoming an expat is a lot about getting out of your bubble, but if you need some degree of a culture bubble, there are plenty of expat communities all over the world. The reality is that you can dial up and down the cultural richness when you want. In somewhere like Malaysia, for example, you can enjoy local street food, multicultural food, or a Five Guys hamburger.

Think in terms of the next hundred years. Where do you want to invest? Where do you want to be a citizen? Where do you want to store your money? Where would you like your kids to grow up?

Once you start spending at least part of your time overseas, you’re going to realize there are a lot of opportunities that will help you not only grow as a person but also help you grow your wealth and grow your business.

At Nomad Capitalist, we help people with financial planning, immigration planning, and expat lifestyle planning. We have compiled a list of questions to help us best determine how to service our clients, create holistic plans, then connect people to our network of experts all around the world, managing everything from a multi-jurisdictional perspective.
